This just makes me SICK....

Okay....  So, let me get this straight....

Before I had my Mirena inserted after my daughter's birth, the Mirena was ONLY to be marketed to women in a monogamous relationship who have had at least one child (for a lower risk of the uterus being unable to handle it/keep it from expelling or perforating the uterus).

THEN I find out that--when the Mirena was first marketed, the doctors were told that it was NOT supposed to be used in nursing mothers because nursing causes the uterus to contract and therefore increase the risk of perforation/damage to the body.  I find this interesting considering that it was given to me BECAUSE I was nursing and it was a "safer option" for my baby.  Whoopsies, doc.....

THEN I find out, by the time Mirena #2 came into the picture (only 2 1/2 years later) that it went from being marketed to only women who have had at least one children FOR SAFETY REASONS...to now being given to any women who simply wants a lighter period.  Hmmmmmmmm.....apparently, the safety issue didn't matter anymore.  Convenient....

THEN I find out that the Mirena uses the exact same ingredient for its contraception as THE MORNING AFTER PILL.  Something that a woman can take as a one-time "oops" that is strong enough to kill off impending pregnancy is what is consistently dripping into our systems every single day for five years straight?  Wow....I'm shocked that this isn't working out well for our health.  Oh...hey doc....you forgot to tell me that, too.

THEN I get this article in my inbox (click below):

Mirena--Now for teenage birth control

WHA-WHA-WHAAAAAAAT??????  Something that, only three years ago, was stated as only safe for women in a monogamous relationship who have had at least one child, has then gone to, "Oh, wait....you can have one if you just want your period to be lighter....and now we are at, "Hey...if your teenage girl is having sex, and you think she may not be able to remember to take a pill, put a Mirena in her."

You have GOT to be kidding me.

I remember being a teenage girl.  Your hormones are already ALL OVER THE PLACE.  I can't even imagine going through the hell that I went through two years ago when I was a teenager.

I read the announcement that it was now to be marketed to teenagers, and--I'm not going to lie--it made me cry.

So great....let's get a bunch of young girls on a birth control that will now make them NOT use any sort of protection that protects against STDs, AND let's put something in them that is making women so sick that they commit suicide or feel like they are going insane.  Great....yeah....let's shove one of those in a fifteen-year-old girl.  How could that possibly go wrong?

All about the almighty dollar....

What is WRONG with people?????

  2. I have had my 5 year Mirena since just after my son was born and, even after reading ALOT about problems women have had with it and thinking hard about it, the only side effect I can honestly say I've had is lack of menstrual cycles which, hey, no complaints from me on that one! No unexplained mood swings, no physical symptoms......nothing. I just got remarried and since we are planning on having a baby some time in the next year, I decided to have the Mirena removed (this coming Friday, in fact) and only learned about the dreaded Mirena crash while doing research on what to expect once it's removed. So my question is, in your experience, do women who have not had any issue with the IUD have more or less problems after it's removed? I had planned on going straight onto the pill until we decide the time is just right.....I might need to rethink this a bit........

  5. Gosh, I was not aware that woman were having serious side effects from the Mirena IUD! I had one for the full 5 yrs., and like the above poster, had zero side effects, and had lighter to non-existent periods. When I had it removed, my husband and I wanted to have a 2nd baby. I ovulated, and then had the full menstrual cycle of menstruating and ovulating again- and then we conceived! I was overjoyed and very thankful to become pregnant so easily. Now the baby is 2 1/2, and I am on a copper IUD b/c my health insurance wouldn't pay for a Mirena so I paid a mid wife out-of-pocket. I am happy not to have the hormones anymore, but my periods are now longer and heavier than before the copper IUD.

  6. I had my Mirena removed after having it in for 1 year and 2 weeks exactly. Had it removed September 10, 2012. I had it removed because I was having pain on the time. Only had it put in because of after being on birth control pills for 22 years with no problems my doctor told me I couldn't be on them any longer because I smoke and had hit the magic age. I called my doctor numerous times about the pain and she just said take Ibuprofen which did help but found myself popping IB all the time. So, when I went for my physical in August 2012 I repeated that I felt like I was in pain all the time. She did an ultra sound and said it was in the right place and could see no problems. She sent me to a gasterologist stating it sounded like a colon problem. Well, I left and agreed to see the gasterologist. Still having the pain and having to wait three weeks for my other appointment I decided to get the mirena removed. Actually made an appointment with another gyn to remove it because my doctor acted like my symptoms were in my head. I could feel relief from the pain immediately. I did..bled that day and the day after and then it stopped only to start 3 days later again for 5 days and then it stopped only to start again 9 days later. In the mean time I have had an ultra sound on my gallbladder and an endoscopy that all show up fine. The symptoms I am having is nausea constantly (not pregnant have taken three test) headaches, extreme fatigue, can't focus, pain in my right side, extreme anxiety and all this has come on since removal. My husband has been very good about everything but both of us are pretty tired of me not feeling good. I feel like I am going crazy!! I hope this ends soon!!! I had blood test done before it was out but none since removal. Just needed to vent. Glad I found this blog because other sites are not as current as this one.

    2. Hi, I also had no side effects till I had the mirena removed. Now I've had all the above plus some. Heart palpataions, irregular periods, horrible muscle spams in neck, digestive problems. I am glad to say that I have found a Dr whom I'm working with to help get my body back to normal. Google dr j nutrition and watch his videos!

  7. I just had mine mirena taken out yesterday. It is 4am and I am up with a bad headache and I feel sick.
This is my 2nd one had the first one fitted in 2006after my son was born. It worked well for me for 5 yrs. So I decided to get another one. it was easy to take out. But it hurt when the next one was put in.
I had it for 6 months and looking back now and reading all the comments I did not feel myself at all. But what made me have it removed was that I got 2 very bad urine infections the first one the Dr told me (male) that it was flu and told me to take ibrophen. The 2nd praise God was female listened to how I was feeling checked me out then got me an ultra sound done. Which showed that my 1of my tubes is blocked. Because of the iud.
I have 4 kids. So getting pregnant is not what I want anyway but u are not told this can happen. And do you know that the Dr still (male) does not see it as a problem. I am praying I don't go through a mirena crash don't have the time for that. I am actually looking forward to having a period. I felt so free yesterday when I got it out took all of 5 sec

  9. HEY GALS JUST A FYI, MY EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN AWFUL THE LAST 15 MONTHS AND I AM STILL TRYING TO GET WELL. IT CAN BE A SLOW PROCESS BUT WHAT I HAVE FOUND OUT IS THAT ITS NOT JUST THE SILICONE THAT POISONS YOUR SYSTEM, ITS ALSO THE FAKE PROGESTERONE THAT IS RELEASED INTO YOUR SYSTEM AND IT REEKS HAVOC ON YOUR ADRENALS WHICH MESSES UP YOUR WHOLE ENDOCRINE SYSTEM. I HAVE ONLY WORKED WITH HOLISTIC DOCTORS THE LAST YEAR, I TOTALLY LOST TRUST IN TRADITIONAL DOCTORS. THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO HELP AND WON'T BELIEVE YOU ANYWAYS! GOOD LUCK! I HOPE NONE OF YOU GO THROUGH THE NIGHTMARE OF HELL THAT I HAVE!

    1. I found that out too, I had the silicone testing done, which I don't really know what my doctor meant because first she said that there was none in my system then rephrased it to say that it was below the detection level. Anyways I still had all of these same symptoms, but its not from silicone poisoning so it must be the progesterone. I had it removed and no I am still not 100% but I am so much better already. I too haven't gone to the doctors, my doctor thought i was crazy and didn't believe that it could be caused by the mirena, since then I have lost even more faith in doctors.

  10. Hey Ladies - I am having my Mirena removed next week after being in for 5 years. I have spent most of my afternoon doing some research on hormonal imbalance when I came across the issues that so many women were having with the mirena. I thought maybe I was just "abnormal" due to some mood swings, weight issues and some of the other things others have mentioned but nothing to severe. Anyway, I am looking for some advise on detoxing. I have had lots of issues with my weight, as nothing I do seems to work. Would love to see a blog about some detoxing ideas that have worked. Thanks ~ Angela from Ohio

  11. I recently removed the mirena 5 days ago, i had it for 6 years! I was a teenage mom so not only did they inserted it when i was 14 years old but the nurse i had kept pursuading me to keep it, i had horrible pelvic pain, my heart rate was unusual, at the time of intercourse was uncomfortable and painful, i had terrible mood swings. I changed doctors and i am so glad it is out of my system! now i have to wait until my body adjust to its normalty if that is going to happen, but i can feel so much better already!

  12. I bet you have silicone poisoning. Demand a silicone test from your doctor. Believe it or not women who had the mirena are testing positive to silicone poisoning and you have every symptom.

  14. Part of me wants to share the story of how I wound up with Mirena but I'll leave as simply as I was pregnant and after a horrific journey wound up not pregnant and with Mirena because the haemophilia centre recommended it to shorten my periods so that maybe all my blood levels would improve and to boot I would have a higher quality of life. Anonymous November 30 - what blows my mind is that 2 nurses, a surgeon, a hematologist etc....all talked to me about Mirena and none told me about the extensive list of side effects. Now let me tell you that I informed each of them that I had severe morning sickness within weeks of conception. I often had an allergic reaction just before my monthly cycle started, always had PMS and had tried the pill once and my then doctor decided I had too many side effects. But each of these medical professionals told me that Mirena would be good for me because the dosage of hormone was so low. After the worst 7 months ever I finally convinced the doctor to remove it. I can't believe the hell I have been through. I even said to my doctor who had suggested a thyroid test since I gained weight..."When you took my blood pressure last time and said it was a little high, why didn't you tell me that high blood pressure can be a side effect of Mirena?????" It infuriates me that when I worked in financial services you have to get clients to initial everything to understand risks and to prove you gave them the info and the opportunity to read contracts....but doctors don't need to give you ANYTHING in writing to advise you about all the different side effects of a coil that is inside you. And yet my depression got so bad I started to think " I don't care..." My husband is relieved because within 24 hours of removal he observed...it appeared I lost weight (water retention?), my body temperature was back to normal, I was giggling and joking around (which I hadn't in months). Personally I could write for hours about all the differences in the last week that I have noticed. So yes Anonymous...how can Bayer or doctors continue giving this to any female no matter age or relationship without at MINIMUM being more thoroughly advised about the possible side-effects and risks. Well given what you can find by searching in google (which I have in French and English) its evident that ALOT of women have side effects. Sometimes when I see comments like on forums or blogs about the side effects of Mirenaa ...and along come the comments from women saying "I had no side effects it was perfect for me." I can't help but think the drug companies employ people to go on these forums and provide fake reviews/comments. If all worked well for you on Mirena why would you be reading a blog about all the side effects?

  15. Hi ladies, I had my coil removed last night after being told I would feel a light twinge! I nearly went thru the ceiling with the pain. Immediately had cramping, felt hot and lightheaded. The GP tried to fit a new one as old one had been in 5yrs but the pain was so bad and I almost passed out so she stopped. I bld a lot after before leaving the surgery and it's starting to calm down but today I feel like I have the flu! I am hot/cold, whole body aches and I'm queasy and feel so tired. I'm a smoker and today I can't even bear the taste or smell of them!! Is this normal? I really hope it passes soon

    1. Hi Regina, I see your post was months ago about the time I got so sick and almost checked myself in to a mental institution. Worst Mother's Day of my life as I had been shaking for 3 days and crying that morning, barely could sit at the table through the breakfast my beautiful children had made me, went to the Dr that day. I was diagnosed with anxiety and then over next several months mis-diagnosed several times with Uti's and possible kidney stones! In July I figured out it was my Mirena, I am now 3 months post myself and will say that after effects are just as bad although somewhat different. I hold out faith that I will heal and get through this and this blog helps me. Your story breaks my heart as you are so young, one thing that I draw strength from to get through this is a younger version of myself when I had no fear and persevered through some of the worst times. I hope that you can find that strength in you as your whole life is ahead of you, still. You will make it through and you will heal. We all will improve if even not 100% I believe we will get better. I have to. I hope as I am writing this 3 months post that you are much better than I am now. 6 months ahead of me. Stay strong everyone! And raise hell with your Dr's, tell everyone your story, and report your side effects so that we can create awareness and hopefully save other women from this same destruction!

  19. Hi I have had the mirena coil removed 3 weeks ago as it was making me feel sick, nauseous and bad cramps. I still have abdominal pain and cramps. I'm thinking it's due to hormones, I just wish I could feel well again....

  20. I had the Mirena put in 12/29/2016 and the next day I began to experience swellings. For the next week each day a different area on my body would swell. First my eye, then my hands, then my feet (so bad I could barely walk) , then my lips. The only thing that helped was a RX for steroids from the ER. I had the IUD removed yesterday. I feel better but woke up today to a swollen lip

  21. I am suffering perimenaupausal as bleeding and hormonal imbalance, the doctor recommend that i should have merina iud. I have it now for a week and i feel good until i went to accupunture for my back pain. Now i feel back pain, sleepless, and acid reflux is bad. So i dont know where these bad feelings are coming from, merina iud or result of accupunture. I believe women who can still produce hormones, iud with hormone is not good because your body can still produce hormones. Anything that adds to your body will cause hormonal imbalance and that is how you get sick. I think iud with hormone is only good for women who has problem with hormonal imbalance or decreased of hormones due to age and doctors should tell their patients what can happen to them based on their age. I am praying to the God of Israel in Christ to help us who have with different issues in life. I feel that people all over the world are now suffering with health issues, and I believe it is coming from malnourishment (famine of natural food supply) and above all we forgot our Creator who is the Healer and a Restorer of peace, joy, and health. We became busy with our life, family, church, or religion, we no longer worship Him based on His words, which is holiness and in Christ. Holiness means sinless life. Living Sinless life heals all troubles in life. The Law of Moses teaches all the sins that God forbids. It is been prophesied by the Holy prophets that this world will go through tribulation when people will suffer with different kinds of problems. But the just shall live by faith. Let us live our life focus onto our Creator and do what He commanded so that tribulation will not touch us. I am myself learning to live holy life by worshipping God not through religion but based on what He said through the Law of Moses and in Christ. May the Lord God in Christ touch His people with His love and forgiveness and heal them all and be free from the beasts of tge field (doctors and pharmaceuticals who care nothing but money.

Exodus 23:25 “So you shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you.

Exodus 15:26 and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.

  23. I was diagnosed as HEPATITIS B carrier in 2013 with fibrosis of the
liver already present. I started on antiviral medications which
reduced the viral load initially. After a couple of years the virus
became resistant. I started on HEPATITIS B Herbal treatment from
ULTIMATE LIFE CLINIC (www.ultimatelifeclinic.com) in March, 2020. Their
treatment totally reversed the virus. I did another blood test after
the 6 months long treatment and tested negative to the virus. Amazing
treatment! This treatment is a breakthrough for all HBV carriers.
