How sick is this?

So....I wanted to post this article that I had sent to me from a research journal because we are so under-informed about what the Mirena is capable of.

Before you read the article, I want to explain something.....

Most of you probably remember the Norplant birth control.  You probably remember that it was quite popular for some time, and then many women started getting horribly ill (sound familiar?) and it was suddenly removed from the market.

Well......

Not sure how many of you are aware of this, but the Mirena pretty much IS the Norplant.  All they did was basically change the name of it and change the location of the body in which it was inserted (Norplant was inserted in the arm; the Mirena was placed in the uterus).  The silicone is the same, the synthetic hormone, Levonogestrel, is the same...all of it.....

That is why I wanted to post this article.  Notice the symptoms that are discussed in it.  These companies KNOW EXACTLY what it is doing to women, and yet it was just re-marketed into a different product--although it has all of the exact same devastating ingredients as something that was already taken off the market due to destroying women all over the world.  How many of us would have made the decision to have that put in our bodies if we knew that it was basically the same thing as the Norplant?  Not many, I'd bet.....

I was also very interested in this article because it really discusses the damage that was done to women's vision and what was proven to be found in many of them.  For me, the extreme loss of vision (primarily in my right eye--went from fine to legally blind almost immediately) is the one symptom that has never improved for me.  Both the Norplant and the Mirena have been connected to something called a "pseudo-tumor" that is in the brain.  What is happening is that this tumor grows in there and begins to crush the optic nerve...obviously causing extensive sight damage or blindness.  I have been in to both an Optometrist and an Ophthalmologist, and my actual physical eyes are fine.  Knowing that--and knowing that my vision is HORRIBLE now--makes me concerned.  Is this something that I should have checked?  Maybe I should get an MRI to see if that is what happened?  I'm not sure.....I'm going to talk to my Ophthalmologist about it when I see her next.

Anyway, Please read this.  When you do, you might as well replace the word NORPLANT with MIRENA.....It's sickening.

Here you go.  Just click below:

Keep educating yourselves and others, ladies.  Blessings.

  1. This is disgusting! I also know that they are using the same silicone in the Mirena that was banned for use in breast implants. I hope they take this thing off the market!

  2. I'm speechless and much saddened about how these poor women were lied to and mistreated and neglected when they asked to have it removed. Brings back memories of my experience when I was denied removal or degraded when I Mentioned havimg panic attacks docs assumed I was just another uneducated crazy young black girl who doesn't want to work no I can't work after you planted that poison in my system.

  3. My Mom just mentioned this to me!!! She knows a lady that had a really hard time with the Norplant. I wish I could go back in time...I would not have gotten the Mirena after my daughter was born. I got it out b/c I started getting worse migraines and just wanted to keep up with my body more...The Crash hit me sooooo hard, never knew I could feel like I have...still going through it actually (Oct. 19th is the day I had it taken out and it was almost 8 days after that). I think my body quit learning how to make progesterone...I had my hormones checked and it was .30, I have been prescribed bio-indentical hormones to take!! Never had this problem going off The Pill. You will never know how much your site has helped me, thank you so much!!! Fighting this with you!!! Have a good night!!!

  4. Hello,

I have a question that as nothing to do with this post...

I got Mirena removed in October. Of course, before the withdrawal, I was having all the symptoms and that's why I decided to get it out.

A week after the removal, I had a very nice libido boost but since then, it's as dead as before.

Is it normal? Because other than that, I'm doing SUPER GREAT! I feel 90% better but this "little" thing really bugs me. The only positive aspect regarding my sexuality is that I enjoy it more WHILE I'm doing it... But I never feel like doing it. I always have to force myself. Once the machine is started, it's okay, but it takes a lot to start it.

I'm in my mid-thirties, so I don't think it's normal to have my libido killed at this point of my life.

Thank you for giving your insight!

  5. Hello,

Thank you!! The information and resources you have provided have been the most helpful!! It is really quite unbelievable the pharma companies get away with these practices of not fully disclosing all the potential side effects and toxicity issues of the device!!! Please continue your communication it has been such a blessing for me to find you!! I am going to start a detoxing program I have not tried this avenue.

    Thank you!!

    Sarah

    1. Great, Sarah! I think that the next step that needs to be taken after getting it out is definitely a detox. I hope that it helps you like it did me! Keep healing!

  6. I had the mirena for 2yrs had it removed because I started bleeding 3wks out of the month. That has been 4 years ago and I am still not right. I spot before almost every period for 1-7 days a gross black color. And last year I had an ectopic pregnancy it was the saddest months of my life. My husband and I have 4 children and I never had any troubles before I had the mirena. I am in contact with my dr and she now has me on a progesterone cream. Trying to get the spotting to stop. I am not sure what is going on. If anyone has any insight on this I would appreciate it. I hate mirena it's almost like it took my ability to have children away. That is not what I wanted to happen. My drs say mirena had nothing to do with all my troubles but I was always to the day on my periods and never had an ounce of trouble before mirena. Thanks!

    1. I had very similar problems when I had the mirena in. I have lost 2 babies since the mirena was taken out I had 3 healthy kids before the mirena was put in and now I think it took my ability to have more babies too...Good luck to you.

  7. I was fitted with Mirena in January this year. I have been sick ever since. Non-stop headaches, fever you name it. After several visits to the GP I was referred to a consultant who diagnosed migraines. I was put on propranolol; after two weeks of taking them nothing – the migraines persist. I have never had these kind of severe and persistent headaches before. I am a student finalising my PhD but that’s now is a dream, I am too sick to work. My vision has also suddenly become so bad that i can’t watch television without glasses, something I could do very well last year. Two days ago we decided with my husband to go and get it removed; because we can’t think of anything else that has changed in my life since January except the mirena. All my blood tests have come out fine. I also stopped taking the drugs for migraines. Rather than become dependent on another drug which could also give me more side effects we decided to get rid of the mirena instead. I am still terribly sick but hopefully things will improve. I curse why I ever went for the Mirena; it has served me no purpose except making me sick. I am permanently ill we’ve almost had no sex since the day it got fitted. I have moved from a very healthy woman to an invalid

  8. I was fitted with Mirena on Monday. As in, this past Monday. I woke up on Tuesday with a pounding headache - I have had migraines (diagnosed by a neurologist, for which I take topamax and imitrex) since I was 3 and am used to headaches. The headache hasn't gone away. I have taken every headache drug I have in my "lady with migraines" arsenal - tylenol, naproxen, imitrex, vicodin - NOTHING will stop this thing. I thought at one point maybe I was having a stroke, or an aneurysm, and I called my neurologist in a total panic. Guess what? She sees this all the time with migraine patients, and told me that she would have "strongly advised" me not to use Mirena if I'd mentioned it to her. My gyno brushed it off when I mentioned I had migraines and I'd seen headaches as a side effect before he inserted the device. Such bullshit. I'm yanking this piece of crap myself if the doctor won't do it.

  9. I have the Mirena as well and it is awful ! I have my oppointment tomorrow w/my OB to have it removed. I have had mine since the middle of May and now its october and I still have been either bleeding or spotting everyday . I am even more glad that I have stumbled upon this article. My husband likes that I have the Mirena, but he does not understand what I have to go through. He asks me if I spotted today? I tell him, Honey, I spot every single day . I can not wear my cute underwear that I used to be able to wear, its all granny panties until I get this this IUD removed. I have been feeling very tired lately and I most certainly hope that I am not preggers. I am not going to take a test, I just am going get this thing removed and deal with having to remember to take the pills. If I had a ton of money, I would love to have another child. But, right now, having 2 is plenty and they both keep me going. My husband do not have many chance to be intimate due to the bleeding-spotting and keeping up with our kids. I hope that they do take the Mirena off the Market . It is very upsetting to have to find this out on a blog. I have heard of the Norplant and if I knew it was the same thing, I most certainly would not have of gotten this horrible thing inserted in my body. Tomorrow, is going to be great after getting this thing removed. I hope and pray that I do not have any horrible health side effects from the removal of the IUD. O and also , the nurse I had told me that all her friends have it and that they love it...So, coming from a female prospective that is a nurse, I was totally like yea I want this, lets get this iud right away. Do not let the nurses fool you thinking that this is the way to go !!

  11. I have my first Mirena inserted in 2005. 4 months later I was rushed to hospital and was diagnosed some time after with Nephrotic Syndrome. Since then I have had a heavy does of Cyclosporine and on/off steroids daily. I removed the Mirena in 2006 when I decided there was enough drugs and hormones being pumped through me. I am in remission, however, this is a life long disease and the side effects of cyclosporine are among the worst I have read about.
It's now 2012, one month ago I had the Mirena re-inserted... Now, it looks I have developed rheumatoid arthritis. Coincidence? I think not...
I'm having this removed ASAP. I am now, fully convinced that this has caused all of my health problems. It needs to be taken off the market until more research is carried out.

  12. I am 34 and had my Mirena removed on April 19th, 2013 after having it a little over 3 years. I kept experiencing pain during sex so I wanted it out. My doctor insisted that it had nothing to do with the Mirena, but I beg to differ. Two days after it was removed, I got my period. I fealt okay but all of a sudden I started to get horrible migranes. Shortly after I would get the chills, fevers, and much anxiety. It is now May 13, 2013. I still get fevers that when everytime they break, I sweat horribly but feel much better afterwards. I'm tierd and can barley get out of bed. The hospital diagnosed me with "Fevers of an unknown origin." This is after I have been tested for everything. I even had a spinal tap to rule out Meningittis. I was checked for lime disease, PARVO and so many others things which all came back negative. The only thing that has changed in my life was the removal of the Mirena. I am so tierd of these fevers. I just can't take it anymore. I walk around with a thermometer checking my temp every hour. Once I start to feel the chills, I know a fever is coming. I can barely eat. I constantly feel naucious. In three weeks I dropped 15 pounds, and not by choice. I do need to loose the wait but in a healthy way, not because I'm always sick. Oh, and I experience very bad back and neck pain. Like I have authritis. My doctors say I am completely healthy. So what is my body fighting for me to get these fevers. My GYNO says that the Mirena doesn't have a high hormone dosage for me to have side effects like this. I really need help. I am tierd of going to the hopital and being sent home without a diagnosis, cause, or better yet, a cure. Just checked my temp. It's up to 100.3. Once it hits 101.4 I will take tylenoll, excedrin, advil, aleive, or whatever is around. I will lay down for about two hours before it breaks. I sweat shower and start all over again. I am desparate!!!

    1. I just came across this thread and I know its quite old but I saw that your entry wasn't long ago. Your story is very similar to my own. The Mirena has caused havoc in my life and I realize it more and more everyday. I am 38 years old and had the Mirena put in after my youngest son was born 8 years ago and had it in for 2.5 years and literally turned into a nervous wreck with anxiety and panic attacks that I'd never ever experienced before. The doctor said he didn't think it had anything to do with the Mirena and thought it might be symptoms of post natal depression. After 2 years of terrible anxiety, spotting, acne, blurred vision, the Mirena moved up into my uterus and caused heavy bleeding and had to be removed. The bleeding continued for a few months until they also found a stemmed fibroid in my uterus. A few months later I started with fevers and chills and carried on with this for quite some time until I started getting inflammation of the hip, toe, eye (iris) and jaw, and stiffness of the back and neck. The fever and chills were apparently a sign of inflammation/infection in the body. High doses of vitamin C everyday helped me a bit at the time. Shortly after a terrible summer 5 years ago when I could hardly walk and had to sleep in a chair because of severe back and hip pain, I had an MRI and was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis and psoriasis arthritis. I have no history of arthritis in my family and have never ever had any back pain growing up or in my twenties. My anxiety has improved a bit but I still have issues and am not the same sound person as I used to be. My vision is finally back to normal. The stemmed fibroid fell out in April this year (due to the stem twisting) but only to discover another one in the wall of my uterus the size of a melon. The doctors want to give me a hysterctomy but I'm now going to try natural progesterone cream to see if it can give me some hormone balance and also maybe shrink the fibroid. I know it might sound a bit over the top but I actually blame the Mirena for everything!!! I hope you can get some help and find out what's wrong.

    2. I just had mine out for a various reasons (back pain, pain during sex, swollen abdomen, swollen feet, neck and shoulder pain, weight pain of 20 pounds!)

After 3 days I felt a lot better although did experience headaches for a while after. Everything quickly went back to normal. Please get it out! It's an evil device!

  14. Unfortunately your information is incorrect.
Pseudotumor cerebri (latin for "tumor-like" within head) is a condition in which the pressure within your skull increases for an unnown reasons. Neurologists and Neurosurgeons have explored the topic extensively, and there is not physical reason that has been shown to cause pseudotumor cerebri. This condition is however associated with obesity, so having a BMI over 30 predisposes you to pseudotumor.
